Set Apart
This project is an early-stage indie folk song I’m currently developing. The file shared here is a rough snippet — much of the production is still in progress, with MIDI instruments planned to be replaced by live recordings, processing to be added, along with vocals and finalized lyrics to be added later.
As part of my ongoing education in microphone techniques (currently studying in a dedicated mic class), I chose to track the violin using a Shure KSM141 small diaphragm condenser microphone, positioned near the bridge/neck area. While this captured detailed articulation, it also resulted in a tone that's slightly harsher than I intended — an important learning point I’m actively exploring through further mic experimentation and placement adjustments.
This project places emphasis on experimenting with microphone techniques and refining my production process. It’s a continuous learning experience, allowing me to apply what I'm learning in real-time while striving for a more polished sound. This project represents both a snapshot of my current work and a space where I am continuing to grow in mic selection, placement, and the overall production process.
